I found an area of strange mesa-like structures on one of my samples - near this spot, the sample broke, scattering tiny fragments of glass and laser material across that part of the sample’s surface. After I used high-energy plasma to etch most of the laser material away, the spots that were protected by fragments ended up becoming little mesas, formed in a similar way to real mesas (except carved by plasma instead of wind and water).
This landscape is small - okay, everything I post tends to be small, but these things are some of the smallest. You’d have to stack 2,000 of the mesas on top of each other before they equalled the thickness of the average human hair. They’d fit easily inside a single skin cell. Small!
